Chenin blancWine + bicycling — the Delta country just south of Sacramento is a beautiful place for both. The Clarksburg area is widely regarded as one of the world’s best places for growing the chenin blanc wine grape. And over the past decade California winemakers have begun using Clarksburg chenin blanc — traditionally a bulk or blending wine — to make a varietal wine to stand alongside chardonnay.

The region around Clarksburg is also a great place for riding a bike, with quiet, oak-shaded country roads, beautiful river and valley views, and cool little farm towns.

Join us for a ride to experience the Sacramento region’s signature wine grape, where and how it’s grown, and the wine it produces. Starting and ending at the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg, this 18-mile loop will take us along the beautiful back roads around Clarksburg, with a stop at Bogle Winery and a visit with the Heringer family, which has farmed in the Clarksburg area since the 1860s, grows chenin blanc and produces a definitive varietal.
